As the recession bites deeper I fear there will be more events like this, Allotments round where I live have seen a lot more incidents of them being raided etc, you know things are getting bad when people start to steal food from farms etc, it has always gone on but not like the numbers we are starting to see now.
I have been out of farming now for over 20 years,... but it was almost as common then as it is now
Its just the Welsh coming down to get new girl friends.

Yer dead on Highlander its always been kinda rife with a big uptick during the miners strike when times were hard.
