I wonder if anyone's had the opportunity to try one of these backpacking, woodburning stoves? They look light and efficient and seem to take away the need to carry fuel. I'd be interested to know...
not used the solo but have used other wood burners in the past and yes they are easy to use and most are very efficient with fuel
Yeah ive wanted one of these for a long time but they can be pricey this is the cheapest ive seen that isnt home made

why not make yourself a "hobo" stove out of a large tin??

Do tell... (I've never been a prepper never mind a hobo!)
its pretty easy really....first get your tin! OH bought me one in a charity shop for 50p but any clean tin will do, cut out a largeish square a few inches from the bottom with a pair of tin snips, drill a few holes around the bottom with either a drill or a bradawl or something sharp and pointy..this is for air flow....job done.

Thanks BP - now where's that drill...
there's probably a video showing how to do it on youtube which will show it easier than my humble explanation!Big Grin
Just found this. Looks like a deluxe version!

ive seen a few types of wood gas stoves and even tried making one (worked to a degree)
i like the idea that there is little smoke due to the secondary burn
