Personally I don't think the police have an easy job to do by any means and certainly in this area, I think they are pretty good. Cities and other large built up areas are a different kettle of fish altogether and with the way the Romanian and Somali gangs in particular operate, can you really blame them for holding back in certain situations until backup arrives. As said earlier, they are only human like you or me and they are doing a "job". The police are not the problem, it's the scum that the police do not have the powers to deal with and which the courts refuse to punish which is the real problem.

the biggest change I saw working in the security world was drugs , store guards their because of the junkies shoplifting for a fix , I worked in mainly rural market towns , but the guys working in inner citys got given stab proof vests to ern £6 an hour.
I also did 25yrs plus on the doors and drugs in the last 10 ish years of my time started to really kick in , fight a guy on speed put him down , gets streght back up with the energy of 3 , crack was even worse they thought they were gansters and acted out there dream , crack is now a real big problem for doormen in all parts of the uk , I got out 10 yrs ago , god only knows what its like now.
also guys want to get in to clubs to sell , these types are very heavy indeed even in market towns you really have to watch it.
they will get in , then put in some sort of divvy but you turn him away they be on your back , nasty really nasty.
Back in a previous ,i did a bit on the doors ....and agree Sunna......speed ...i remember that f...... stuff.... not funny, and BAD for your looks.....especially if you are a handsome bastard like me....they used to get back up 5....6 times......just because i was sooooo good looking .....i used to hate re,doing my hair..........i am joking.............it was 3 times as a rule.
I stopped working the security at Glasto when they told us stab vests were compulsory and the work up training and vest would be billed(taken from your fee)have done security on an off here and oversea's year on year it got tougher/scarier...I gave it up in the end...no pockets in a shroud.
Living in the sticks as we do, I feel fairly safe most of the time. We don't see much of the Police around here - they drive down the lane occasionally and the locals come out to gawp at them. Quite funny really. Crime in this area is mainly the rural stuff - theft of property from fields, yards etc., with the odd bout of rustling or beehive nicking. Nothing dramatic. A bit further into the County though and the Eastern Europeans do cause problems - they are usually responsible for most of the muggings, drink-related problems and so on. All pretty basic stuff.
When I do go out on my own it's in my Landrover; doors locked and sometimes dog in the back. Tangle with me if you dare!
Yes Mary, since we got out of town we feel safer and more settled, crime is much less but also because its also not as crowded as towns and cities people are not in your face as much, its just much less stressful.
Although we live off the beaten track, and quiet ...what i have noticed the last five years is the sound of two,s and blues....and most days.........most nights boy racers up and down the bypass with straight through exhausts .....like i had on my cooper .....funny how that sound now pisses me off ....as they approach the roundabout and change down i now wait with a face like a china man for the crunch as they hit the raised ramp bed of the rounabout and land on their roofs....you always see the police then ....but NEVER before.
We feel safer in as much that we are now much better able to look after ourselves, and have far greater independence.
But in the last twelve months we have been victims of crime on two occasions, car wheels stolen in the city, and garage door crow bared open in the country ( but nothing stolen). On both occasions, police were basically damage assessors for insurance companies.
Mrs LS is much less comfortable in the city now. This is not so much a reflection of increased danger, more of her having much greater situational awareness.
And in the single sentence by LS shown below we can see with absolute clarity a massive benefit of being a prepper.

The less we have to rely on utilities and public services, the less we nee third parties to meet our needs the SAFER and more SECURE we are.
In some cities your kids are not safe even if they go to a private school because the local chavs target them, Isnt multi culturalism wonderful.
