Simple question.

What would you like to see from the forum?

What direction do you think would help it?

What would make you more interested in reading the forum?
I'm interested in home growing, home brewing and home energy production. It stems from my belief that we are headed for a long, slow decline and need to ramp up our own supply lines.
I agree with Steve. Becoming near-self-sufficient is an effective way to hedge against financial disruptions, supply shortages and an inability to travel, all of which could be sparked by a multitude of events, from severe weather to a geo-political crisis.

Having said that, I also think the "what would you do" scenarios are good. Makes you think and sometimes presents a situation that you may not have really thought about (e.g. your recent house-fire one).

It would be interesting for members to present their own prepping case-studies. I.e.: "These are the threats I'm prepping for, here's my strategy, here is what I've done, here is what I have yet to do." But op-sec might make this impractical.

Hope this helps.
I'd like to see more detailed threads on powering your own home etc.
solar and turbine set ups.
ALL the above ! i agree completely !
This forum has 25 sections, counting this one, and covers every aspect of prepping, homesteading and survival that has been mentioned.

Of those 25 topics 13 of them have had no discussion for more than a month and several have not been attended for 6 months.

Each of the topics mentioned has been discussed, linked, argued over and prayed to once, twice or to an infinite degree, so there is a lot in our files. But the folks here do not mind repetition, so ask agains if you want.

The only thing we do not have a section for is "how to $h!t in the woods" and I do remember discussing that in detail a couple of years back, probably in a thread hijack.

I suppose it is up to the 6 of us that participate to anticipate the needs of the 6 who do not and "move" the forum in the "direction that would help".

Now keep in mind that some of the best discussions I can remember here have been started by a question and not by an offer of information.

So it is not only up to the "people that know" to steer the forum, but also to the people who ask the questions.

If you want to see a discussion, and do not know much about the topic, ask a question!

You are guaranteed an answer because some of us here know everything, and if we don't we have google, bing and several other devices at our disposal. That way we look like we know everything even when we don't.
You make valid points MB ......25 topics .....i can ask questions of all of them .....and i would get good information back i am sure ....from a few members who know more than i do....and i will gain from it , but its become obvious that we do not have the depth of knowledge and support we once had here (on hand ) ....if you dredge the files and old threads ...this will take you far ....and good knowledge and help can be had by all who seek it.....IN my case i enjoy the interaction with people who are singing from the same hymn sheet or should i say simular mind set as mine...we are a band of brothers...or sisters , we may argue and disagree but for all of that ....you can grow, even change your stance .....i would remind ALL ....this can only BE possible IF YOU PARTICIPATE

Why not take the 25 topics throw them in the air, and create a thread for all.....Kick us off MB ....pick on the oldest not used......take it away son ! .....i will try to follow.....along with ....THE OTHER SIX.

It could be the MAGNIFICENT SEVEN......i wanabe cheeko
One of the hazards preppers get into is the "like minded" syndrome.

We look for the "like minded", find them, agree on more than we disagree, the discussions become inbread and contain no new, different or varied information.

And then there are the specialists. The folks that know so much about solar power that they have no time to discuss the best solar cell phone charger for under 15 pounds.

Or me, going wild on pump shotguns when the basic ss is the norm. Although gun porn is always permissible. I like to look at vehicles I can't afford, or have, also

or on the opposite end of the equation, we offer an answer and get the reply, "that sucks, I don't want to hear that, so it are wrong or stupid or both."

U have enjoyed the simple and realistic scenarios we have been discussing of late. They have brought out useful suggestions, good points and cover things that could/have or are likely to happen.

BTW what is the oldest thread not under present discussion. I will check on that. If it happens to be women's health issues, child care or best ways to cook a stray dog I am out.

All right, I just looked and it is Sanitation.

I have a ready question and it is a doozy.

I am expecting full support and assistance on this one.
Young dog, old cat.....
Oh for heaven's sake! Not everyone wants to trawl back through the Forum topics to see if their subject has already been aired, and it's easier to re-ask the question. It may also bring (gasp!) variations or additional points of interest to those folks happy to read up to date postings. Personally, I read whatever topic interests me at the time, and I really don't mind if it has already been posted on in a previous era.

As for what I would like to see, well, let think, anything on growing stuff that could prove useful; pointers as to potential problems; livestock, health, ooh lots. I wouldn't be unhappy to read about Landrover maintenance if anyone has the mind to write an article....
