Well apparently Vladimir Putin is offering Brits 2.5 acres of Free land over in the far east of the country for Brits who want to get out of the UK and go Self Reliant. So no more excuses you dudes who have always wanted to live the Frontier lifestyle Smile

Yeah I would go
But the Commies are no longer in charge Barney its a nasty democratic, capitalist state with no dole, NHS or welfare, you would be miserable Smile
Ha ,don't you believe it NR the red will never die in the USSR
Probably not, it appears to have moved to Islington and is running the Labour party Smile
Tempting but I really hate the cold, so I wouldn't do well out there.

I have to wonder how many of the dreamers would withstand the winter chill or simply change their minds much like what is happening on the Bear Grylls show at the moment, albeit for different excuses...
MW good point , folks would need to have a mountain man type attitude , someone who thrives on isolation, i could live in a very remote village but I could not get by in total isolation and my kids could not survive without broadband and Burger King
You're going to work very, very hard to be self sufficient on 2.5 acres. It can be done, just, but will need so much work.

25 acres is more realistic, and they're not short of acres in Siberia.

Come on Putin, offer us bit more land for free - we can send a load of potential smallholders out there to learn the trade, then they can come back and help us grow some food.
Thanks for the offer Mr P.

Yes, it would be tough now doubt, but where I could see it working is if a group were to take up the offer, and were allowed to have the land in adjoining plots. A determined group with a high degree of specialism in areas of agriculture management, off grid power, building, fishing (if near water), mechanical engineering for vehicles and machinery, and some home brewers to make the vodka from the potatoes of course Smile, could very well turn this gift into a mini (albeit cold) paradise.
