What got you into prepping - uks - 18 July 2012 For me it was being ex-mil and knowing the horrors that would be fall us if there was ever a major conflict. I was always interested in survival, outdoor life, 4x4, fishing etc so it was a natural progression into prepping for me. I dont prep for anything in particluar but just generally. So what was your reason to start prepping?. RE: What got you into prepping - Carnebwen - 18 July 2012 Reading the news. A cross section of movies like tremors etc. video games likes fall out 1,2,3. Metro 2033, stalker. Growing up in the middle of no where Cornwall and moving to a city where no one is prepared for anything. (like several days with no electricity, heat or food If the power goes and you can't get out of the valley if it snowed). Hunting with my dad as a kid etc. also interested in American stuff, fire arms and the like so it overlaps. I feel like I would have made a very good redneck. RE: What got you into prepping - NorthernRaider - 18 July 2012 Finding out that whilst I was sitting in a trench on the greater German plain the ruling elite in the UK were telling the public no one could survive a nuclear war so it wasnt worthwhile building bunkers for the public, whilst they were spending billions on bunkers to protect themselves, the damn royal parasites and the nations works of art!!!!. The public could die whilst their sons fought to protect the ruling elite whilst those same ruling elite were tunneling like mad under Dover, Whitehall, Corsham, Liverpool, Edinburgh and in Canada ( super bunker for the royal parasites). I became a survivalist and republican at the same moment. I even used the forum names of Cromwell, Ironsides, Buffs, Republican and Roundhead at one time but again some pathetic sad creatures running those forums also took offence to anyone who was not a fawning ass licking royalist. RE: What got you into prepping - bigpaul - 18 July 2012 not so much prepping or survivalism as such, but watching the planes crash into the twin towers on 9/11 made me realise similar could happen here and it was time we (as a couple) made some emergency preparations. RE: What got you into prepping - James Jackson - 18 July 2012 when i lived in lapland its a way of life out their, winters to harsh to grow crops, so you live off the land and make use of everything you can. Kids are taught to live off the land, go onto islands in the summer, and a general outdoor lifestlye. Pitty they dont go into it for kids over here RE: What got you into prepping - bigpaul - 18 July 2012 (18 July 2012, 11:38)James Jackson Wrote: when i lived in lapland its a way of life out their, winters to harsh to grow crops, so you live off the land and make use of everything you can. RE: What got you into prepping - James Jackson - 18 July 2012 supose its not a problem out their. if somebody goes after the kid they would have their balls cut off and left outside to dry RE: What got you into prepping - bigpaul - 18 July 2012 (18 July 2012, 11:44)James Jackson Wrote: supose its not a problem out their. if somebody goes after the kid they would have their balls cut off and left outside to dry yes, but we live in a socialist democracy dont you know? it might infringe their human rights! RE: What got you into prepping - TOF - 18 July 2012 Mum and Dad were children of the Depression and worked through WW2. They both had a major hoarding problem because of it, you could say they were pioneer preppers, it seems to be genetic as I have it too. I've always had plenty of food in the cupboard and extra sources of light and heat, I've just ramped it up after being snowed in a few years ago. RE: What got you into prepping - bigpaul - 18 July 2012 my parents were born just before WW1, my uncles went to Canada in the depression, this generation always had store cupboards/larders it wasnt something they thought about it was just a fact of life...this was the era before supermarkets..in fact i didnt see a supermarket until about 1970, so i guess it was always in my genes..its just taken a large event to bring it to the surface! |
