The police should just keep them marching straight to dover and then stick em on ships to the worlds wonderful socialist paradises like Greece, North Korea, Zimbabwe etc

Only those who are totally dependent on the state would attempt something as stupid as to try and change it from the inside. Do they think they are just sitting on enormous piles of money, and not spending it on programs because reasons?

Protest doesn't change anything? Did you miss the Arab Spring?
Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen all had their rulers forced from power in the course of a single year, all as a result of protest (and some fighting, but they all started as protests).
We're at a pretty incredible time in history where protest is having more effect than ever before throughout the world.
And it's set the stage for governments to take serious notice of protests. And the closer the threat of riots/anarchy is, the more potential influence those protests have.

those werent protests HN, they were CIVIL WAR.

RE: London protest march - Rupert - 20 October 2012

General Strike?
These people are mad, this country has one of the best living standards in the world.
When people in this country are like they are in Greece then they have a reason for a general strike.

Anyway if the government wants to make cuts in the Civil service how about all the non-jobs that have been advertised in the Guardian for years.

I'm sure if we got rid of outreach workers to Disabled Kurdish lesbians ayslum seekers it won't be the end of civilisation.

what changes things is superior firepower...
Oh hang on we've been disarmed...
wonder why...

Tunisia started with a self-immolation protest which spurred violent demonstrations aka protests, which led to the ousting of President Ben Ali and resignation of Prime Minister Ghannouchi.

Egypt was inspired by Tunisia and had 18 days of protests and violence, which led to President Mubarak resigning.

Libya started as anti government protests of Feb 15th 2011. This one did basically turn into a civil war, although quite short lived. By October Gaddafi was killed.

Yemen started as protests too, around the same time as other in Jan 2011. Within a year President Saleh was forced to resign.

Protest is the first step towards change.

Whatever, those countries mean nothing to me, better this country minded its own business and didnt get involved in things that dont involve British territory or British people.
