Night Vision - Tartar Horde - 31 March 2013 Security is a major concern during any current world scenario, and post SHTF it should rightly be at the top of our list. Night vision systems, or at least top end ones tend to have a high price tag making them unreachable for all but the well heeled prepper. The digital revolution has brought NV systems down to levels that make them affordable to many more people, even if you have to save a while to do it. Having the ability to move around at night when the vast majority of the population can't is a huge advantage, especially when most of the people will be escaping the cities by day, enabling you and your family a safer exit under the cover of darkness. The Yukon Ranger digital night vision monocular 5x42 is an amazing bit of kit, and after seeing one in action I am trying to justify having one, and at around £500 as compared to other systems is pretty good value, but still a large chunk of money. http://main.yukonopticsglobal.com/product-overview-digital-nv-ranger-5x42.html here's one being used. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5d-1rQnNKA RE: Night Vision - bigpaul - 31 March 2013 night time is going to be very different post SHTF, i dont think most people realise just how much light pollution there is right now, when the street lights no longer function you'll see just how dark it really is. i've known city people who cant cope in the countryside when there arent any street lights. RE: Night Vision - Luci_ferson - 31 March 2013 yup its pretty damned dark in the middle of the moors. but even then you can see the faint glow of a distant town. in a total blackout its gonna be a whole lot darker unless its a very clear night with a good moon. Thanks for sharing this, TH. It makes me think it would be good for folks to add night vision goggles to this. This would allow me to use my weapons or free up my hands while still being able to move in the dark. Thanks much indeed. Luci and BR are so right about the dark closing in when power is lost. It will be so primal. I meant BP not BR. Sorry for the mistake... One guy attached a cheap camcorder with night vision capability to his scope, as well as a little infrared laser.
