This should be useful for BOBS, WEARABLE MAPS - NorthernRaider - 27 June 2013 This is not a new idea in WW2 British spies and Paratroopers along with RAF pilots were routinely given silk scarfs printed with a map of the area they were operating in, The Flying Tigers in China also did something similar. But I think these could be a very useful and trendy asset to our EDC and BOB gear. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2349732/No-soggy-maps-First-WEARABLE-map-helps-hikers-navigate-weathers--ink-wont-run-wash.html RE: This should be useful for BOBS, WEARABLE MAPS - Highlander - 27 June 2013 Yes, a very nice idea, as you say they are not new, I have seen tea towels that look the same if not made the same,... I would get one for my area if they were around, but I think I may have to wait awhile before they map my hills RE: This should be useful for BOBS, WEARABLE MAPS - bigpaul - 27 June 2013 at £18.99 to £25 EACH it will be very expensive to replace all my maps but nice idea. RE: This should be useful for BOBS, WEARABLE MAPS - Tarrel - 27 June 2013 Could you DIY? Use PC based mapping software, such as Memory Map, to print your selected area onto a teeshirt transfer, then iron on to your garment of choice. Never done it, but don't see why it wouldn't work. RE: This should be useful for BOBS, WEARABLE MAPS - Mortblanc - 27 June 2013 Any tee shirt shop worth its salt could transfer a map directly from computer download onto a shirt or scarf at a reasonable price. The can do it from a picture of your dog, parrot or grandkids, why not a map? RE: This should be useful for BOBS, WEARABLE MAPS - Highlander - 28 June 2013 Yes, but isn't there a difference to whats being advertised with these wearable maps If you went to the shop they would down load your map/picture and it is printed onto the surface of the material, this is common practice but will wear off in time This `new` idea said something about imprinting the ink so that it didn't wear off,..without loosing this and going back to look I cant remember quiet what it said RE: This should be useful for BOBS, WEARABLE MAPS - Skean Dhude - 28 June 2013 The cheap method they use with iron on transfers will soon make a map useless as it cracks and detail is lost. Not many of us have modern tee shirts that last any length of time. RE: This should be useful for BOBS, WEARABLE MAPS - Highlander - 28 June 2013 `embedding the ink into the fabric` is the difference RE: This should be useful for BOBS, WEARABLE MAPS - Scythe13 - 28 June 2013 I think it looks stupid. Like those London Underground tshirts. It's clever, and I see how it'd be useful, but being lost is more fun than looking like a bellend haha. RE: This should be useful for BOBS, WEARABLE MAPS - Tartar Horde - 28 June 2013 Plus people might think you are a bit "touched" having to wear a map to tell you where you are, bit like wearing a name badge ![]() |
