USB/Solar/Wind up Radio - LawAbidingCitizen - 3 November 2015 Considering purchasing this from Amazon, price looks good at £12.85, anyone purchased one of these, or have any advice on a better alternative around the same price range? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-Hybrid-Radio-Rechargeable-Charger/dp/B002D9FKDS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1446551469&sr=8-5&keywords=portable+radio RE: USB/Solar/Wind up Radio - NorthernRaider - 3 November 2015 Got one, they are absolutely TINY which is good to keep one in your kit BUT the station tuning dial is abysmal and the integral speaker horribly tinny RE: USB/Solar/Wind up Radio - LawAbidingCitizen - 3 November 2015 Cheers NR, as long as I can get the main stations in times of a possible event. Have you tested how long it runs on a wind up alone? RE: USB/Solar/Wind up Radio - NorthernRaider - 3 November 2015 Less than 20 minutes run time on the crank, its really a very basic bit of kit. http://www.nevadaradio.co.uk/portable-radio/analogue-portable-radios/eton-fr360-solarlink--ex-display-model- RE: USB/Solar/Wind up Radio - Lightspeed - 3 November 2015 These also have a shortwave radio receiver built in. Again quite a small radio and rather plastic, but the ones I've looked at do work quite well: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DEGEN-DE13-RADIO-RECEIVER-CRANK-DYNAMO-SOLAR-EMERGENCY-AM-FM-SW-PORTABLE-ORIGINA-/400990708837?hash=item5d5ce8a465:g:NfEAAOSwHnFV67cK RE: USB/Solar/Wind up Radio - LawAbidingCitizen - 3 November 2015 Cheers NR Lightspeed - Looks a bit better that one and like the SW band. Also has functions to charge Cell Phone, Charging Jack. If that means you can charge a phone by cranking the radio and charging off of that then that's a very useful feature... RE: USB/Solar/Wind up Radio - Midnitemo - 3 November 2015 oooh I like the look of that LS .... been thinking of a new world band radio for a while to supplement the grundig yachtboy , do you have one? RE: USB/Solar/Wind up Radio - Lightspeed - 3 November 2015 No I don't have one, I have something similar that came from Blacks leisure 5 years ago.... that one's still doing fine. RE: USB/Solar/Wind up Radio - Nix - 3 November 2015 Bought a wind up led torch/radio from Aldi about 7 years ago, still works. My real back up radio is my tiny MP4 player with built in radio. Real advantage of this is the extremely low power consumption (easily charged with my solar stuff) plus, with the earphones, very discrete and excellent sound quality. The wind ups do make a racket sometimes but then again, with earphones, you're masking some sounds you may want to hear... RE: USB/Solar/Wind up Radio - NorthernRaider - 3 November 2015 Don't forget ham radio users the UV5 has a built in FM radio receiver. |
