Always works for me and is far easier than using ones arms to apply pressure. Just got to apply the force evenly or steadily, rather than quick & injuring oneself. I always have one in the back... next to the general tool kit, and bottles of water, fruit and nut mix, wind-up torch, blankets, lighters... and so on and so on.
