RE: Butter / Ghee - River Song - 13 June 2013 MMM that Asda one is cheap. One of the problems is shelf life. My one gives May 2014 which is about 1 year. Maybe my eyes were bigger than my stomach. What's a poor girl to do with a kilo of ghee? All suggestions accepted as long as they are clean :-) RE: Butter / Ghee - Tartar Horde - 13 June 2013 (12 June 2013, 21:01)Highlander Wrote:As long as it is piping hot you don't have to pressurise at all just pour into suitable containers and seal. If your Ghee is going out of date it is still safe, just re-heat till hot and seal again you will not get any bacteria if hot enough. The Indians reckon ghee matures with age and gets better anyway.(12 June 2013, 11:02)Tartar Horde Wrote: Or make your own Ghee. It is only clarified Butter and very easy to do at home. RE: Butter / Ghee - Highlander - 13 June 2013 Thanks TH,... now let me get this right, Ghee in the first place is only butter that has been melted to a liquid and left to harden again,..is that right RE: Butter / Ghee - I-K-E - 13 June 2013 I think you melt and heat to remove water and when pouring you filter to remove solids RE: Butter / Ghee - Bjm - 13 June 2013 try http://www.everydaymaven.com/2013/how-to-make-ghee/ complete with pictures, lol RE: Butter / Ghee - Tartar Horde - 13 June 2013 That's it, butter with the solids removed leaving a clear fat. |
