RE: Survival Style? - bigpaul - 31 August 2013 like you say JP it is possible to obtain these traits without every going anywhere near a military establishment, I would also add common sense and patience, something most of us civilians gain by something called life's experience, something I think that cant be taught. RE: Survival Style? - Skean Dhude - 31 August 2013 Guys, Let's not go into the Soldiers and Civvies differences. The thread was about which is your style. Just answer the question then there is no need for further comments. RE: Survival Style? - River Song - 31 August 2013 I have tended towards the "hippie earth mother" style. After I was that sixties chick complete with beads, bells and patchouli oil. I have moved (a little) towards a more disciplined structures style - I think that in a post TU situation, we will need far more discipline and order. I completely disagree with this assessment, it is the complete opposite to what is really required of a modern soldier, he is no longer cannon fodder, but someone who has to make his own decisions and to be able to operate very technical equipment The thing is,... a soldier is not a prepper, no-one has ever said that their military career is related to prepping,... but a lot of the training done by a soldier is something that preppers do,... the modern soldier is a very adaptable man, he has to be, dont confuse the soldiers of the 50s-70s with the military people of today You can take this further, a soldier is not a prepper, nor is a bushcraft person, the likes of Bear Grilis and Cody are not prepers they are survivalists Preppers are a bred to themselves, they are a mix of both the above, you pick out the bits you like and add it to your preperations,.. if you want to bug out in boots take that from the military if you want to use other footwear, then take it from somewhere else We shouldnt even compare soldiers to preppers, there is nothing in common at all, we shouldnt compare bushcraft experts to preppers either for the same reason,.. neither of these groups will have food stores or bug out routes, they will have nothing we have, unless they become preppers A preppers style is without a doubt a style of its own RE: Survival Style? - RoadWarrior - 31 August 2013 My Style, skinhead/shaved head.......denim, leather and german/swiss camo.....heavily tattooed, pyramid studs and mirrored "ray ban" aviator sunglasses and compulsory crossbow !! It also raised the military issue within the first couple of sentences. Should we ignore that, simply because we might hold a different view? Waylander then raised the issue of mental health among those who have seen and experienced what no human ever should. Should there be no explanation, no alternative viewpoint? I wholeheartedly agree with your policing policy for the Forum, as you made clear in your article in Survival UK main but I question not being allowed to respond to a point raised in the opening post or other points raised as it progresses... RE: Survival Style? - Tibbs735 - 1 September 2013 Think Victorian farm with guns and some other modern conveniences like books, power generation etc. RE: Survival Style? - Tartar Horde - 1 September 2013 Sorry if this reply seems to be "sitting on the fence" so to speak, but my outlook to survival is not focussed on any one approach, as I believe any scenario is possible and no one can see the future. I try to be as adaptable as possible, I'm prepping to stay but won't hesitate to leave if I deem it necessary. There are so many ponderables to this game.
