Its called Social Engineering, IE using mass media and schools etc to brainwash the masses into accepting the conventional as norm and anything unconventional as anti social, Believe in Big Brother, Believe in the State, the State will provide PROVIDING you conform to the states will.

These are not "documentaries" and are not intended as education or enlightenment.
American shows of this type are NOT REAL.
The people are NOT REAL and the names, scenes and situations are NOT REAL!!
American "reality shows" are produced, written, scripted, directed and marketed just like any other TV show or movie.
They have casting calls, auditions and the actors are on contract.
YES THEY ARE ACTORS !!
I belong to several outdoor oriented forums here in the US and we get promos for casting calls and invitations to be "extras" almost on a weekly basis.
If they really did most of what you see on these programs they would be arrested within hours.
(several years back when they first began these "survivor shows" they tried using "real survivors" and several of the volunteers did go to prison. The producers realized that sane/sensible people would not violate opsec by volunteering for their shows. The only volunteers they were getting were the mentally deficient and the criminal element that will do anything for TV time. That just about ended the use of "real people", since "real people" desire some opsec, and everything went to scripted movie set.)
It is all an act, the words are scripted, the settings are carefully selected, there are makeup artists present as well as representatives from the Screen Actor's Guild, Humane Society, traffic control from local law enforcement and a camera crew.
