Flashlight and a lantern within arm's reach. Also cell phone and pocket knife in desk drawer. Doors are locked (usually). My 65# blue-tick coon hound Tessie (who has great hearing, good teeth, and really DOESN"T like strangers) is within petting distance on the floor. My handgun, loaded and ready to go, plus extra magazines are in the closet 15 feet away with my bug-out bag.
Oh yes, I also have a nice bourbon and water on the desk...

That lamp was a favorite of my late wife. She had it when we married and kept it in a specially made wooden box to carry to reenactment events and use on our camp tables.
It is not a relic but probably does have 25-30 years use on it.
