RE: Walkers Scottish Oat Cakes? - Mortblanc - 24 December 2016 Milk and Brown sugar creates a wasted effort. You can eat pressed sawdust with milk, brown sugar and a touch of maple syrup. RE: Walkers Scottish Oat Cakes? - CharlesHarris - 24 December 2016 Perhaps you can, but I like oatmeal, and wanted to try them that way. So far best bet seems to be lightly toasted to warm them up, with just a bit of butter and/or jam. Peanut butter is also very good on them, but that might seem an American corruption, and if so I take my punishment... RE: Walkers Scottish Oat Cakes? - MaryN - 24 December 2016 Yum! Oatcakes. We eat ours with cheese and chutney straight from the packet. Also pretty good smothered with butter and home made jam. RE: Walkers Scottish Oat Cakes? - CharlesHarris - 24 December 2016 MaryN, Butter and jam seem the logical choice, but I will try cheese and chutney! RE: Walkers Scottish Oat Cakes? - LAC - 24 December 2016 These are the ones I like but don't think they're available on Amazon.com http://www.wabel.com/p/nairns-oatcakes/2408/aldi_scottish_rough_oatcakes Just wondered, have you ever had Scottish Dumpling? also known as Clootie? it's a real winter filler and high energy. You can also eat it with savoury food like bacon, sausage, and eggs, and you can fry/grill it as well. http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/clootiepudding_9528 I have to say I've never made it (yet), but have relatives that post it to us from bonny Scotland. We got about 5 Kilos of it recently and cut it up and stored it in the freezer. RE: Walkers Scottish Oat Cakes? - Grumpy Grandpa - 1 January 2017 Why not try a Bannock recipe using oatmeal instead of whole meal flour? Or as Damper, in the Australian way...? |
