Point bank to the skull and it still did not kill him??

Now what was your point again?

RE: Pistol Crossbow - Midnitemo - 25 December 2013

they mostly are and you just highlighted the fact with this article...the guy was lying on the floor unconcious and point blank it failed to deliver a lethal strike!

if you have someone prostrate and unconcious like that you'd be better of pinching there nose and ubstructing the airway simultaneously...don't shoot him with a crossbow pistol lol

RE: Pistol Crossbow - Skean Dhude - 25 December 2013

For those talking about firearms. If you want to talk about that then start a new thread leave this one to the pistol crossbow crowd please.

RE: Pistol Crossbow - Timelord - 26 December 2013

Ranged weapons in a "civilian" urban setting, going by historical and contemporary accounts is often at a range of only 3 to 5 metres. Expecting to be able to reload or for others in your group to have a clear shot and then again expecting to have time to pick up and shoot compound bows in that same setting is a bit over optimistic! The big elephant in the room is that by the very act of using a pistol crossbow in this type of setting is giving away a time factor advantage to your opponent. You are shooting a mediocre weapon at best and are using valuable action time to do so. A better defence action or weapon system would be a much greater advantage and would not be wasting time during those critical seconds that count. If a pistol crossbow is your only weapon to hand and so thereby you justify its use, then that is "ppp"...

RE: Pistol Crossbow - River Song - 26 December 2013

It may not have killed him but it sure as hell "stopped" him.
Which is the point.

Oh BTW - Happy Christmas

RE: Pistol Crossbow - Midnitemo - 26 December 2013

he was already spark out!!!!!!! thats stopped in my book

happy chrimbo back X

RE: Pistol Crossbow - Skean Dhude - 26 December 2013

River,

I think if you read the articleproperly you will fin he had the crap beaten out of him which 'stpped' him.

The crossbow was then fired at a stationary target at close range.

Now I looked at the picture and it seemed to me to be a larger than normal pistol crossbow. Plus it says it was a 8 inch bolt which is larger than normalas well.

Yet despite all that it didn't kill him. So what would it do under less than optimum conditions?

RE: Pistol Crossbow - NorthernRaider - 26 December 2013

It bloody well hurt him BAD, thats my point you silly man, just as a bolt or arrow will not always KILL an opponant nor does a rifle or pistol round EITHER. A crossbow bolt to the head DOES do serious harm THAT is the point if it had hit him in the eye or throat the damage would have been worse.

Firing a pistol crossbow at indoor ranges up to 10 yards is nearly as useful a a 22lr from a pistol and probably better than a 22 short.

SD look at the X ray images it looks very much like a standard 6/12 inch bolt and the photo of the bow shows a pretty standard but mangey 80 lb draw Mk 1 Cobra.

As for big compound bows the DM recently showed a big fat porker unning around a field with THREE full size bolds sticking out of its chest, SIZE isnt everything, Luck and Marksmanship help enormously.

Montblanc you appaling manners are truly your hallmark.

Man killed with crossbow FYI

BTW when I was soldiering and we were still fighting in Ulster there was plenty of documented cases of both sides shooting each other with both AKs, ARs and SLRs and the targets survived, dont get into the Hollywood bullshit American attitude that a gun will always stop the bad guy because it wont.

RE: Pistol Crossbow - Midnitemo - 26 December 2013

its about probabilities...a gun probably will and an xbow pistol probably won't and then there's the follow up shot available to most guns thats not available to the xbow pistol
