colony - Barneyboy - 16 April 2012

Hello guys just seen the colony link got me thinking about if the shit hits the fan we are all seperated maybe it will be a good idea to find and pick a communal where we can join skills and protect each other and families i know a lot of us are very private people but surely safety in numbers just an idea guys what do you think?

RE: colony - mikebratcher69 - 16 April 2012

fine by me, i suggested an island somewhere like lundy.

RE: colony - grumpy old man - 16 April 2012

i would be up for that
the pirates had a code of conduct we could make a list of articles like that ?
could be worth getting heads together now about
remember who's going to keep toot with your a sleep?

RE: colony - Weyoun - 17 April 2012

I have suggested this. I have an enormous amount of supplies and can add to this to keep 10-15 people for 2 years, more if I want to. I am fortunate that I have a highly profitable business and I spend £2-300 a week on food, cleaning stuff, other supplies such as water purifiers, weapons, stoves, shoes and lots of other things. If I could find a really good defendable place with a group of others, I would buy a mountain of supplies and seeds.

Just cant seem to find people/place.

Steve

On paper I have no problem with this, I'm not sure I could do though.
There are a couple things that bother me. I couldn't share my living space, and then there's the who's in charge thing. I like the articles idea though.
I'm happy to work for the good of a group, but not live in it.

We could do the voting system majority wins? seems the fairest way, then theres nobody in charge like a council of elders type thing.
We'd have to have a rota system for jobs I suppose, like digging, planting, cleaning, guard duty etc... then everyone does the same jobs at some point on the rota.
As for the in charge bit, Probably whoever's skilled in the job or event thats happening say house building "directs" the others in what to do for that specific project only, Just like businesses do, if they cant do it they get a specialist in. I think it'd have to be run like us being the origional founding fathers in the U.S. wherby we make a constitution of basic laws to live by thats all. And if anybody breaks the laws they have to be tried similar to today but with everybody having a say not just one judge, then put to a vote for punishment maybe?? I think the people we are we probably wouldnt need laws, but they'd be there for a basic living standard, maybe a bit like the libertarian approach where everbodys just left to get on with things unless there of detriment to the rest of the "society"

Voting sounds like a great idea we could do what we do now and call them elections. What could possibly go wrong with that?

In everywhere we have made great strides there has been one dominant person. As soon as we look to 1 person one vote we end up in the situation we have now.

If a group gets too big them we have issues. I'm all for small villages each with its own stores, land, control. Communes don't work very well. Human nature doesn't allow it.

So Lundy sounds great. Most won't make it because of the distance and the scavangers. Those that do may find it already occupied and what then. A steady stream of refugees with stores to top up their supplies.

You either make one now and live in it or it is impractical. Now setting up comms to keep in tough and perhaps arrange things ... Maybe... A meet after an unnown event at a common BOL. Unlikely.

i think the idea is to look into it and talk about the place food before tshtf

I agree with SD and BB on this.

That's one of the reasons I'm working on sorting out the Bristol Preppers and getting us being more like a network.

Right now, it would be impossible to get myself a patch of land, especially in the Bristol area. I'd look at Wales, but even that wouldn't be practical at present.

At least, if we have a network and can come together as a team, that provides us with much greater capabilities than lone-wolfing. Ideally a retreat location would be on the cards, but unless you have WnC or Weyoun levels of cash, it's not doable.

This WnC and a lot of cash thing was a myth made up by Mr NR, I am in the same boat as near on all of us here, I am sure or atleast think I am.
