Driving in France, brethalyser kit a legal requirement. - Dorset Lad - 6 May 2012

I've just seen a camping shop selling breathalyser kits with a notice stating it's a legal requirement to carry one when driving in France from July. How long before the cops here decide they can save money by breathalysing you with one that you have had to fork out for rather than them. Has anyone else heard about this?

Typical. A new tax. I'll be buying those that always show negative. Might cost a bit extra but it'll be worth it.

Are the brethalyser kits one use though? So if you've had a glass or two of vino, use the kit and you're okay to drive... Then you get stopped by the French 5-0, who ask to see your kit. You don't have one. Ah, monsieur, zat vill be 300 Euros si vous plais...

On a side note, getting caught speeding in france has always been a nightmare. The old man got stopped heading back to Calais, 2 police motorbikes got him. Wanted cash there an then. Unfortunately he had none, so they made him follow them to a cash machine to get the money out!
