might be ok for calm waters on a mild river but dosent look strong enough for serious use.i dont think i'd like to chance my life in it.

Looks worth £40 if it does what you want it to do.

Not necessarily. If it lets you down at a critical time, then it is worse than not having it at all and using an alternative!
You don't usually get a lot of build quality for £40. It would need a careful inspection and consideration of where you would actually use it. It's not like you can carry it around too easily.
Chinese by any chance??

Yeh just a bit of fun for the kids never really been into boating so don't know much about it, it flouts they have fun we go home kind of thing, does seem a lot of kit for the price though.
Bit more info:

I've seen a few similar boats. price range from £90 to £300.

No need to apoligise. I just didn't believe you could buy one new for that money. Thus it was 2nd hand.
I would imagine that it would be really thin for that although for that price you could have a very handy BOV.
