Sweden nuclear terror alert - NorthernRaider - 21 June 2012 UK is generally downwind of Swden, so if that plant went bang we would get crap falling on us. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2162585/Swedens-nuclear-power-stations-red-alert-explosives-truck-plant.html RE: Sweden nuclear terror alert - bigpaul - 21 June 2012 (21 June 2012, 17:19)NorthernRaider Wrote: UK is generally downwind of Swden, so if that plant went bang we would get crap falling on us. i think if the wind was in the right direction the North East would be the first area to be hit?? maybe if the wind was more southerly it might take out Londonistan that gem of multiculturalism?? RE: Sweden nuclear terror alert - Timelord - 22 June 2012 I thought the prevailing winds in the Uk were generally South Westerlies Anticyclonic, which is actually air originally moving in from the N.W but circulating as it comes in over the gulf stream, so that it actually hits us from a West to S.W direction. The N.wind is straight from the Artic when the Gulf Stream has no effect. It is rarer that we have a N.E or Easterly wind. from the direction of Sweden - ALTHOUGH the Northern hemisphere global wind currents could possibly take material from Sweden to the West, across & beyond the far North UK Coastline and then recirculate it down with the gulfstream in an anti cyclone pattern to hit the West Coast of the UK from the Midlands upwards. So even when the air from Sweden was not directly blowing across to our Eastern coastlines, it could still hit us from behind on the Atlantic West Coast. Lovely stuff that weather!! RE: Sweden nuclear terror alert - NorthernRaider - 22 June 2012 When Chernobyl went bang which is roughly on the same latitude as Sweden the wind at a certain altituude apparents blows west most of the time. this lead to fallout from the reactor falling on Sweden, Norway, Southern Scotland, Northern England and even northern Ireland. Its only been a few short weeks since the last restriction on the upper pennines hill sheep farmers has been lifted in this area over 20 after it went bang. Then as you say the anti cyclonic patterns can be a git as well. |
