RE: Connunications update following Polls: - PrepperJohn - 5 October 2012

I would be very interested in building a simple ATU that could be used with the rockmite or any of the QRP CW DIY rigs

An SWR metre for VHF/UHF would be very useful as well at the moment as I am building an antenna for my dual bander at the moment

Here's a link for an L match that will work fine. I'll be building one for my man pack project in the next month or so. If you've not built yours by then, I'll share construction derails with you once I know ots working properly.

I need a UHF SWR indicator for the same reason as you:-)

LS, swr meter 0.75 watts @ 12vdc.

Bit faint, only use high lum WHITE LED's.
Colour led's require more drive.

REf VHF swr meter got diagram but no values, will email it when complete as it is size dependent.

Cheers Paul,

I think he chellenge is even greater as its a UHF indicator that I need, not VHF :-(

Damn, Can't find the component list anywhere. Only accurate up to 330Mhz / 2 watts anyway.
Good little SWR though, again built round a go/no go LED indicator and a length of strip line.
Reverse thinking of the HF design, a definite go/no go indication.
Red led bad, white led OK.
Active, you'd need a tl038 op amp, powered by a PP3.
I'm moving away from meters as I'm a big of a "dropper" with all my gear so robustness is what I need not pretty. Problem is the one I built I potted in resin so I can't see the components.
Ho hum, the search goes on.

Would this be a good project?

There are some great kits on that site.

RE: Connunications update following Polls: - Paul - 6 October 2012

The ATM kit looks fun.
Think KISS though.
Anything that needs calibrating might need test gear.

well theres some great pro and cons of which way "we" shud go.....and for me personally money or lack of it is an issue. Im gonna go the CB route as discussed with another forum member.....they are in my budget (car boot sale pending!) and even new about 60 quid so gotta be half that on flea bay ! not sure to go hand held or mobile(car) type or both so me and the mrs has one each. im sure we wud find the odd vehicle battery(unless an EMP hit us) to power it off after bugging out. i remember them going thru the glass type fuses back in the day but other than that....were very robust things.....so ive made my mind up guys....any comm is better than no comm .
