Food shortage alert from Financial Times - NorthernRaider - 20 July 2012 http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/9989dc80-d1c5-11e1-badb-00144feabdc0.html#axzz219kxIdzK RE: Food shortage alert from Financial Times - Juice - 1 August 2012 This post needs a bump. America: Heat wave - crops destroyed; cattle being culled now because of expensive feed Russia/Ukraine: floods - poor harvest Europe Northern: poor summer... Europe Southern: Heat wave... Uk: Unless the weather picks up... GET STOCKING UP! It's not like any food will go to waste! Another post of mine refers to the coming winter In the 1940s we had snow several feet deep Once upon a time you could ice skate across the River Thames It can all happen again How do you think our ancestors survived? 70-80 years ago during the second world war we in the uk were not self sufficient; we needed convoys from the US (+Russia?) to feed us. What kind of self reliance do you think we have today? After event scenario: Supermarkets work on a "just in time" system after three days of no deliveries stores will be bare ten days anarchy fifteen days cannibalism Let me tell you; we've had it very good up to now - yes very good! No one can remember those bad old days Ask again - How do you think our ancestors survived? GET STOCKING UP! It's not like any food will go to waste! Cheers Juice. RE: Food shortage alert from Financial Times - Prepaday - 1 August 2012 I don't know what use popping corn will be but I had better stock up, Canned sweet corn also, I bought a bag of Tesco own frozen sweetcorn the other day and it was more white in colour than yellow but cooked up o'k. I know lack of corn in my diet won't phase me but corn has so many uses and this is what the problem will be. RE: Food shortage alert from Financial Times - TOF - 1 August 2012 The big problem caused by grain price rises will be the indirect food price increases. Wheat, Maize(in particular), Soy Beans are all major ingredients in animal feed. So expect meat and dairy product prices to rise. Grains in one form or another are in just about everything you buy. RE: Food shortage alert from Financial Times - Paul - 1 August 2012 Sometimes I wonder if these newspaper articles are written by the supermarkets. It could be them just spreading mis information in order to justify their latest round of price increases whilst blaming everyone else for their profiteering activities. RE: Food shortage alert from Financial Times - TOF - 1 August 2012 My brother-in-law is a Baker, he's just had a letter from his suppliers informing him of a price increase for flour, and there's likely to be another before Christmas. http://www.bakeryinfo.co.uk/news/fullstory.php/aid/10498/ADM_Milling_puts_up_price_of_flour.html RE: Food shortage alert from Financial Times - Hrusai - 1 August 2012 awh man i hope our local bakery will be ok, i worked there for years, and almost every kid who grows up in the village does a few years working there, although im sure if shortages are that bad they'll just keep a reserve and sell mostly to villagers but if the price rises are already affecting business, big and small i think its safe to assume that we should start to stock up before the sheeple go crazy and panic buy thanks again tof ^^ |
