RE: A simple Wire Antenna for Preppers - Lightspeed - 29 July 2012 Thanks TLN, The best solution for an efficient antenna is to trim it for perfect match ofcourse. I'm proposeng the AMU, a fairly expensive investment, as it will allow maximum flexibility when it comes to antenna systems. Trimming for perfect match is allwell and good when we have time and inclination to do so, but in a grid down post SHTF environment when perhaps we really want to avoid being seen in the open the AMU will let any bit of wire suffice as an antenna. Not the best antenna, but something functional none the less. Thanks for your vote of confidence. 72 de LS Clothes line antenna? Of course this type of antenna perfectly lends itself to being discuised as a clothes line, In fact the heavy duty PVC clad copper stranded wire antenna material would be excellent for this ( but a little expensive... LS RE: A simple Wire Antenna for Preppers - Paul - 29 July 2012 RE: A simple Wire Antenna for Preppers - Lightspeed - 30 July 2012 Thanks Paul This is really good advice. A BALUN is certainly needed in many situations. The reason I specified the MFJ 901 and 971 models is precisely for this reason, they both have an internal 4:1 BALUN that is permanently wired to the "wire" antenna terminals. My thinking is that these "boxes" contain pretty much everything needed to get an antenna matched to a transceiver or receiver. They are a safe, reliable and quick all-in-one-box solution. A KISS solution, that I'm sure TL will approve of :-) ? High efficiency antenna systems are kind of the next step up. they are the ideal antennas, but can be more complicated to rig and tune. LS |
