Everyone should have freedom of speech, even if they are deemed racist or crazy or whatever. Without total freedom of speech, an unpopular opinion could be branded insulting, or with intent to cause disorder or words to that effect.

Your right to free speech ends where my feelings begin!

RE: Free speech - Scythe13 - 7 September 2012

Oddly, we are meant to have free speech, but speaking freely comes with a heavy cost!!!

We have free speech, provided what we say is aligned with what we are meant to say.

Scythe we do not have free speech. having free speech means there is no punishment for telling the truth. That is not the case in this mickey mouse country.

This is pretty much the point of the article/thread.
Thanks to Section 5 of the Public Order Act, Free Speech doesn't exist in the UK. And as I mentioned in a previous thread, it's basically a law that gives police the right to arrest and harass you for just about anything, because it's purely down to their judgement whether something you say or do is insulting, abusive or threatening.

Section 5 of the 1986 Public Order Act says a person "is guilty of an offence if he (a) uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour, or (b) displays any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting, within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby".
