road closures due to floods , must be a record - NorthernRaider - 25 September 2012 Got up to the longest ever traffic report from the regional news broadcasters, I reckon there are no primary roads open in any direction leaving this area. A1, A19, A1M, A 689, A68,A 66 etc all closed in multiple locations due to floods, PLUS hardly any functioning rail services. All the commuter traffic is being pushed onto minor roads and its total chaos. Dozens of road, rail and pedestrian bridges and thousands of footpaths are closed This is not a how to though, all I want you to do is just think for a minute about your bug in / out routes and how suitable are they if the weather is as bad as it is today, also I ask you to consider what these same routes would not be like if the temp dropped from 10c to 0c ??? RE: road closures due to floods , must be a record - NorthernRaider - 25 September 2012 Coments from the flood authorities and councils in the radio this AM We cannot cope with any more floods We are out of pumps we are out of road closure and diversion signs We are diverting motorists off trunk roads but they are being directed onto other roads that are closed Two callers to local radio saying they have now ran out of fuel cos they have been stuck in traffic for hours, they never learn about HALF FULL being EMPTY in prepperology. RE: road closures due to floods , must be a record - 00111001 - 25 September 2012 I admit I don't have any set bug out routes, ours are all fluid. We know where we need to get to, but the route there can and will change. My truck weighs nearly 3 tonnes though, will quite happily go through a bit of flood water - but obviously the depth / speed of the water would need to be tested first. RE: road closures due to floods , must be a record - bigpaul - 25 September 2012 its still raining here, 3rd day of rain in a row. Same areas in newcastle as the last time are flooded. Just seen a great clip on the news. Not sure wereabouts but the emergency services have shut a river? Really? I think they shut the bridge over the river RE: road closures due to floods , must be a record - 00111001 - 25 September 2012 (25 September 2012, 13:58)NorthernRaider Wrote: Cor blimey I'm cut off, the list of closed roads around me is insane Got a boat?? RE: road closures due to floods , must be a record - bigpaul - 25 September 2012 i think the news was from Morpeth? just seen the news DURHAM centre is flooded, rivers broken its banks and flooded the road, water is now lapping doors of office blocks and a hotel. RE: road closures due to floods , must be a record - NorthernRaider - 25 September 2012 Just driven across the south Durham inland sea (as I type the cops are saying the worst is yet to come) Picking son up from school and driving home the usual back road saw me doing 10 MPH through two foot of floodwater for a distance of three miles, only the top of the hedgerow to guide me. A1 and A1M 40 miles of traffic jams, they have now cut the armco down to let traffic do a U turn. |
