once the lights go out the opportunity will be extinguished with them.
i dont want Nuclear in any shape or form-as far as i am concerned ANY risk is a risk to far, i know "Alternative" energy is only a small % but it has to start somewhere "from little acorns mighty oaks do grow" sort of thing. i DONT CARE if the lights DO go out, there is far too much light pollution anyway.

Nuclear is OK for us. Stable tetonic plates, new power stations and experience of safely managing them. After all there are vast tranches of Devon where hardly anyone lives. Smile

There are vast tranches of Devon that are devoid of human habitation and where there is significant levels of readioactive polution, enough to be a human health hazard!

... its Radon gas that escapes from the famous granite rock formations that make up much of the county...

Power on Monday to Friday. Turn it off for the weekends.

Perfect.

RE: The sheeple motivated - Paul - 8 October 2012

No power over the weekend? Daft!
Deep freeze contents binned on Monday.
What you going to do about essentials like supermarket fridges?
Vaccines that need to be kept chilled.
No fuel over the weekend, no car Monday, no work.
No phones or shops open
Hospitals running like the third world on generators.
No fuel to replenish their tanks.

Daft, Disaster, and SHTF time.

Deep freeze contents binned on Monday.
- I've had power outages that last more than 48 hours. Food still fine to eat.
What you going to do about essentials like supermarket fridges?
- Better fridges / freezers.
Vaccines that need to be kept chilled.
- See above
No fuel over the weekend, no car Monday, no work.
- Fill up Friday (Is it really that difficult??)
No phones or shops open
- Brilliant.
Hospitals running like the third world on generators.
- They cope
No fuel to replenish their tanks.
- See above
Daft, Disaster, and SHTF time.

So no power for you is a SHTF time?!

RE: The sheeple motivated - Paul - 8 October 2012

Your faith amazes me.

RE: The sheeple motivated - BeardyMan - 8 October 2012

Just think, no power on the weekends means no TV, PS3, X-box for the kids. They might actually get outside!
No shops open, so town center not rammed full of idiots desperate to get to the shops, cars polluting the air. You might actually be able to walk through a town center without the fear of being run down.
**28ish percent decrease in your electricity bill Wink

All that is needed for a total nuclear nightmare to make a huge area of the country become uninhabitable for decades is ONE LUCKY EXTREMIST, nothing else ONE lucky terrorist he could be flying a plane, driving a truck or even working at the plant.

OR
One defective valve, Solonoid, flawed piped, defective reactor rod, safety switch or improperly operated system and you have
Windscale, Doonray, Three Mile Island and of course Chernobyl.

And if any of you say " It could not happen here" your talking out of your arse. Its designed and built by man thus accordingly it has mans impecfections in it.

Fly a plane into a wind farm or solar farm you end ep with lots of recyclable silicone or glass fibre.

True it could happen here, and it could happen in say, France or Sweden and we could be showred with wind blown debris.

Its a risk. And so is relying on Russia and middle eastern countries fro the supplies of gas and oil that we need to keep the power on...
