How Heavy? - Scythe13 - 8 October 2012

Hi Everyone

Just a quick question that I've been thinking about for a while, and don't remember asking.

How heavy is your:

GHB?

BOB?

EDC?

RE: How Heavy? - NorthernRaider - 8 October 2012

GHB 14 pounds
BOB 47 pounds without sleeping bag or extra water
EDC couple of pound on person maybe 10 pounds in EDC bag.

GHB and EDC are the same item for me

5 to 8kg depending on time of year

BOB fully loaded is approx 23kg

23kg is about 50lbs. That's impressive too.

What do you mean by EDC and GHB is the same item?

I only have a single GHB and that's carried with me/ is in 5 minuted reach of me at all times. I Don't have a separate Every Day bag

23Kg is standard airline weight. That's carryable. As I mentioned total BO load is approx 40Kg each. This is too heavy to carry up a hillside and in packed in separate bags ( bicycle high capacity Panniers actually)

That's cool. My misses is getting me well into cycling, but has banned me from having panniers.....for now.

What do you do about longer items, because most panniers are pretty shallow? Or is that in the high capacity part? (can you tell I'm new to cycling haha).

Have you ridden that route fully loaded yet? Does the weight take a lot longer, or do you adjust your gearing to make it easier?

RE: How Heavy? - Straight Shooter - 8 October 2012

mine is on a par with nr,s

RE: How Heavy? - NorthernRaider - 8 October 2012

I'm actually contemplating retire the BOB and just adding gear to the caches.

RE: How Heavy? - IB1 - 8 October 2012

BOB is 32lb/15kg, it was 42lb when I originally put it together but when I tested it I realised I needed to lose the weight. 42lb was manageable on flat and smooth paths but was difficult over rough ground. It could still do with being a fair bit lighter but as i've discarded all the unnecessary kit the only real options now involve spending lots of money on lighter bits of kit which I cant really afford to do.

GHB is 15lb/7kg, it varies depending on the time of year

EDC is very little, just what fits in my pockets
