You can do a similar thing in the UK with rabbits or Guinea pigs. All you need is a row of wire cages in your garage, and no-one will know! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1sEpGxeTsg

They deep fry guinnie pigs in south America, Coypu is also quite tasty when slow cooked. I would'nt mind trying cat, how about the next RV everyone bring a cat for the BBQ ?
