Thats a good post, after 12 years in the Army I dont need it, but for someone not familiar with the subject, its an easy, informative read.

I was reading this again, and I noticed that although working out the grid reference is correct, I was taught it in the very opposite way.

To get the grid reference of square 2 it says to do the Eastings first then the northings,..i.e. along the corridor and up the stairs

But I was taught the opposite,.. to get the grid reference of the same quare [ 2 ]... do the northings first i.e. up, then across the bottom of the square you want,... the saying here is you `walk before you crawl`

You get the same result, i.e. a four figure grid reference of 1945
