american recession - KnockoffNeil - 30 December 2012

Papers over the weekend have been reporting that obama has untill midnight on monday to cut a new deal with republicans or face going over the fiscal cliff. Basically really bad recession which will be felt globally. Any opinions on how this could effect us?

Never fear!

U.S. politics is nothing but a money shell game anyway.

Going over the Fisical Cliff on 1/1/13 only means they come up with a different deal on 1/2/13.

Obama thinks that the word "compromise" means the other side gives up everything. He is playing a class warfare game trying to make it look like the conservitives are only interested in saving the rich when he is really only interested in continuing his unlimited spending. He counts on "Bread and circuses" to maintain his support. The conservatives are willing to raise taxes but "Big O" will not even talk about cuts to spending.

The FC is much noise and little substance. It only means that cuts will go into place automatically and taxes will rise automatically, but not by much in either direction. That is why the conservatives are willing to hold steady and call his bluff.

It is doubtful that GB will feel any affect at all.

The conservatives have in a lot of cases made pledges to those who elected them not to vote for any tax rises. Likewise, those that rely on the welfare vote do not want to alienate themselves from welfare claimants.

The 'fiscal cliff' is a massive get out of jail for free card for both of them. It will only have big implications for the rest of the developed world if the developed world goes into panic mode over it.

Should kick the legs out of the Chinese middle class and those that work in manufacturing and other secondary industries there.
