Not had time to read the link yet, but i will i a bit.
Im doing a trial run growing sunflowers for chicken food for this winter.
Earlier this year i went out and bought high yielding sunflower seeds that produce massive seed heads.
I also went to Home Bargains and got a 500 gram bag of black sunflower seeds that are sold as wild bird seed for under a £1.
I dont know the results/yield from the different plants yet but i am over the moon how well the cheap bird seed germinated and how well they have grown. They are just starting to show seed heads now, thats probably because they went in the ground a month to late.

I want to get chickens for eggs but the gf is not as keen so i will be going for fish first in aqua ponics but i might be able to pursade her in the next few years
