Review: KPO K500 low cost CB - Lightspeed - 9 August 2013

Here's a bargain

This evening, while cooking dinner I've been monitoring CB on several of my radios.

And the little K-PO beats all my Ham rigs and sophisticated SSB rigs into a cocked hat when it comes to receiving normal FM transmissions.

I'm sitting here listening clearly to stations in UK and across Europe, stations that are only just detectable on the other radios.

The K-Po is what I'd describe as minimalist. Its tiny. It doesn't have the traditional rotary channel change knob, it doesn't have a signal meter. It doesn't have LEDs that light up when it receives and transmits....

What it does have is a great receiver, very good noise reduction and squelch. It is AM and FM capable on ALL european CB bands, with channel scanner, large clear and well illuminated controls and channel readout, with the unexpected nice surprise of having channel and scan buttons on the mike.

Its pretty robust too. This one has been my anti boredom distraction in the car for the last year...and together we've travelled a lot of miles on some extremely rough roads. The car has gone through three road springs in this time...the little K-PO has shrugged off all the vibration and shock and continues to work faultlessly.

So, if you're looking for a low cost, up to date CB radio for your preps and one that will keep you in touch with other CB stations at home and across Europe, put this one on your list for consideration.

Price is normally under £50.00 and complete stataions including antenna and SWR meters are often sold for around £65,00

That's enough about radio for today...I'm off to eat my dinner now!

You'll be surprised how tiny it is. Great big controls for clumbsy fingers too!

Hi Highlander,

Bloody hell that's a rip off. Mine was £45 a year ago. How can the price have risen by 50% in that time when other CE products made in China have reduced in price?

Its still a good radio, but not for that price I think.

Thunderpole have these for 59.99GBP no antenna included but you can probably pick up a DV27 from a car boot for a couple of pounds.
