a working knoledge of gardening / farming is a must but how will the uk fair when or if we slip into a two season year will it affect planting times, what will or will not grow

You need practice planting stuff as well. Doesnt have to be full scale planting you can just plant a handfull of things see how they grow or if indeed thet do grow at all. Getting the practice now before you need to rely on it for food is a must.
