Cedar = Insect Repellant - Scythe13 - 26 November 2013

This is the result of a small sentence in one of the books I'm currently reading.

Burning a little cedar wood will repel insects very effectively.

It's not a ground breaking piece of information, but it's well worth knowing.

As it turns out, the tannin's in the bark work to repel insects. So, if you have a debris shelter or are just out camping, a quick blast with some smokey cedar bark will nicely keep you insect free, but also help you clear out your natural shelter. Consider doing a similar thing if you intend to make debris thermals I spoke about in an earlier thread. It can't do any harm to remove insects from the debris.

Cozy sleeping, cozy camping, happy morning.

Enjoy.

You either have very puny mosquitoes or really, really, good cedar!

Our mosquitoes will swarm through a cloud of burning DDT and devour you through a heavy wool blanket.

Bloody Americans. They have to be bigger & better at everything. Even their insects bite harder than our puny Brit variants Smile

It just means we're in a better position than the Americans, in certain situations. We don't have firearms, but we don't need them to kill our mozzies haha.
