Pothole Britain. - bigpaul - 18 December 2013

did anyone see this programme last night?? it appears Britain is full of potholes and it will take 20 YEARS to repair them all! one was so big it would have submerged a car entirely.........I can just imagine what would happen, or rather NOT happen post SHTF when no one is repairing them....can you??

both of the above would be in a worst position with regard to potholes, as a biker I know this to be true, you can do a lot of damage to a bike in a pothole, pedestrian maybe slightly better as they would be able to see the pothole in advance and take avoiding action.

i don't forsee travelling on unrepaired roads at a speed so great that i couldn't stop or go round a pothole safely...what danger would a pothole be to a pedestrian? unless you're blind !

that's what I meant. unless of course its across the whole road, some of those holes on the programme were enormous, 1 half swallowed a large van and another one a guy was bathing in!!

A 50cc Scooter for commuting post SHTF sounds like a plan. Granted not a lot of carrying capacity but cheap to run. certainly get a lot more miles than my ninja lol.

I was really more interested in the potholes situation both now and after TSHTF than see the thread evolving into yet another vehicle topic.

Here in the US potholes in streets and roads are becoming more of a problem because of cutbacks in state and local budgets for road repairs. When I complain to my street department here, all I get is a cynical laugh, that they are "West Virginia Speed Bumps" and are the only way we can get the flat landers to slow down enough to spend any money here!...."

But you can rest assured that the approaches from Maryland and DC to the casino and horse track in Charlestown are a beauty to behold.

While I am glad to live outside the Moderate Damage Radius from our Nation's Capitol, it does have its moments.

Ah, the semiannual pothole thread!

I still have not discovered where all this post SHTF travel is going too and from?

Have we decided that hiding, laying low, being invisible and blending in is to be abandoned in favor of dashing about dodging potholes?

(The 'Thanks given' was because it was damned funny...)
