Super Homes article on best glazing systems - NorthernRaider - 26 January 2014 We are considering replacing our standard UPVC double glazing with something more energy efficient as I have twice had to replace hinges on windows only 5 years old. I found this interesting piece on the Super Homes website http://www.superhomes.org.uk/resources/energy-efficient-windows/ RE: Super Homes article on best glazing systems - MCavity - 30 January 2014 5 years old NR.. Shouldn't they still be under guarentee? RE: Super Homes article on best glazing systems - Straight Shooter - 31 January 2014 NR if your windows are just five years old , all you need to replace are the DG glass units....these should already be a minimum spec of low E insulation glass ...by law ....check with the insaller the glazing pocket thickness ...28 mm or 32 mm .... if you go standard DG unit 4x20x4 clear argon gas with thermal spacer bar this will give you a u value of 1.4 center pain and 1.8 average if you go tripple well better again but not by huge amounts .....due to glazing pocket thickness' with regards hinges ...if the tension grub screw adjuster is set to tight this can a failier or if mal fitted.....the opening sash will hold off the inner and outer seals......opersite side to handle ...top or bottom or both.....closeing guide retention housing. v shape on the Frame....guarantees .......these days most will only give 12months on any hardware.
