Wife just watching this show on Ch4 catch up, its fascinating because the Dutch have managed to produce a strain of potatoes that grow potatoes in salt water contaminated land, even using salt water to water the crops, some strains of spud, carrot and tomatoes react to being grown in salt water laden soil not by dying off, but by producing more sugars themselves to counter the effect of the salt water . This could be useful to reclaiming former crop growing land that has been ruined by sea water flooding, salt water ingress into aquifers and over watering as seen in Australia where overwatering has brought deep settle salt to the surface and killed off the fertile soil.
Some excellent potential I think.
