Interesting article on housing issues - NorthernRaider - 9 November 2015 I thought for a change to look at an article from a different perspective and found this in the Gruniard (old joke) and how left of centre view the political aspects of what housing we NEED. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/nov/09/economics-housing-britain-political-policy-communities This comment highlights one insane problem with UK housing ""The report specified minimum sizes for homes, which in 1969 were applied to all new council properties, and became known as the Parker Morris standards, after the chairman of the committee that produced the report. A two-storey terraced house for five people, for instance, should not be smaller than 84.5 square metres. Last year Cambridge University researchers found that the size of the average newbuild property in the UK – including all the larger ones for richer buyers – was 76 square metres."" But even worse I note there is ZERO mention of space to (1) GROW FOOD (2) let kids play (3) Store stuff wood etc) and hardly any comment on energy or security. |
