There is law and then there is interpretation of law by the canal trust.

I tend to moor up for 14 days and then move onto next location, I generally move about 3 km plus each 14 days to keep them off my back.

I will be adding to this thread soon.

Nemesis,

This thread got me thinking about fridge power consumption.

One of these or similar might be worth considering:

Specification states its 40w and has a 23% duty cycle at ambient temp of 25C. I'm guessing that on your boat 25c would be considered tropical?

Anyway, power consumption is in the order of 220Watt-hours per day.

This would make it viable to power it from a 500w PV array ( assuming mid-winter output of 10% for 5 hours per day)

The snag is that outlay cost of around £1000 will take 10 years to recover against your existing Calor gas usage.

A "zeer" pot could be a low tech means of providing a small amount of refrigeration space during hot spells. In theory the hotter the ambient temperature, the cooler the the inner storage pot.

RE: Canal boat - Nemesis - 25 April 2016

I tracked down a 12v (41watt) Swan Retro Mini Fridge.

Anyway I have just bought another boat this time I am going to try a GRP type (Glass Reinforced Plastic) I have someone who wants to rent my other boat, I need a change a new project and so I now will be starting from bare boat low costs option.

Boat will be with me this week, pics to follow and a progress report as I upgrade it to self sufficiency standard.
