Knife Sharpener discovery - tiny EDC suitable - - Steve - 30 January 2016 I think I just made a useful discovery, at least a quick google didn't find anyone else writing about it. I like ceramic knife sharpeners, but wanted something really small for an EDC tin. Step up the ceramic lathe turning insert: https://www.ceramtec.com/spk-cutting-materials/silicon-nitride-ceramics/ I just bought (ebay) a pack of these, the square shaped type with the dimple in the middle, top middle of picture. £1 each, posted. They are a little bigger than an aspirin. The flat faces will bring your knife to a razor edge, the sharp edges will cut metal off, for remedial work. They also scratch glass easily, and as you'd expect they cut metals. I have no doubt they would smash toughened glass but I haven't tried it. The dimple type are easy to hold, for something so small. RE: Knife Sharpener discovery - tiny EDC suitable - - bigpaul - 30 January 2016 I use a round carborundum stone, the sort they sell for sharpening scythes and hooks, hit it with a hammer and you can break it into 2 or 3 pieces small enough to go into a bag or a pocket-ideal for sharpening knives and the like. RE: Knife Sharpener discovery - tiny EDC suitable - - Steve - 30 January 2016 An eBay example: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-X-INDEXABLE-CERAMTEC-CERAMIC-INSERT-INSERTS-/321729626984?hash=item4ae8948368:g:RioAAOSwBLlVMsRl RE: Knife Sharpener discovery - tiny EDC suitable - - Straight Shooter - 30 January 2016 Good find Steve ....getting some of those ....i just bought A DC4 and very very happy with it , but these are great for a small tin as you point out. RE: Knife Sharpener discovery - tiny EDC suitable - - NorthernRaider - 30 January 2016 I use these beasties, got em in my GHB, car, wallet, toolbox all over http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/272110042761?adgroupid=13585920426&hlpht=true&hlpv=2&rlsatarget=pla-131843272146&adtype=pla&ff3=1&lpid=122&poi=&ul_noapp=true&limghlpsr=true&googleloc=9046706&device=c&chn=ps&campaignid=207297426&crdt=0&ff12=67&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff14=122&viphx=1&ops=true&ff13=80 RE: Knife Sharpener discovery - tiny EDC suitable - - Steve - 30 January 2016 (30 January 2016, 12:05)Straight Shooter Wrote: Good find Steve ....getting some of those ....i just bought A DC4 and very very happy with it , but these are great for a small tin as you point out. PM me an address and I'll post you one. RE: Knife Sharpener discovery - tiny EDC suitable - - harrypalmer - 30 January 2016 The little Blade Tech work well but don't work on knives with a Scandi Grind. Use them lightly as they will really rip metal off your blade if you apply too much pressure when sharpening. RE: Knife Sharpener discovery - tiny EDC suitable - - Barneyboy - 30 January 2016 They get a bloody good edge,on my mora NR RE: Knife Sharpener discovery - tiny EDC suitable - - NorthernRaider - 30 January 2016 Not rich enough to afford blades with a scandi grind Harry RE: Knife Sharpener discovery - tiny EDC suitable - - Lightspeed - 31 January 2016 Good find Steve. Thanks for sharing with us. I'll be ordering a set next week. Cheers. |
