It can be done, just, but will need so much work. 25 acres is more realistic, and they're not short of acres in Siberia. Come on Putin, offer us bit more land for free - we can send a load of potential smallholders out there to learn the trade, then they can come back and help us grow some food. Yes, it would be tough now doubt, but where I could see it working is if a group were to take up the offer, and were allowed to have the land in adjoining plots. A determined group with a high degree of specialism in areas of agriculture management, off grid power, building, fishing (if near water), mechanical engineering for vehicles and machinery, and some home brewers to make the vodka from the potatoes of course , could very well turn this gift into a mini (albeit cold) paradise.
