Strings - Tartar Horde - 24 May 2016 I know a few of our members shoot bows, but I'd like to ask "how many of you make your own strings?" RE: Strings - NorthernRaider - 24 May 2016 Not me I need teaching. RE: Strings - Barneyboy - 24 May 2016 Nope RE: Strings - Steve - 24 May 2016 I have a reel of fastflite, serving thread and beeswax. However, my bowstring shows no sign of wearing out for a while, so I guess they'll stay in the old biscuit tin for a bit longer. RE: Strings - Straight Shooter - 24 May 2016 No i would struggle, and have no stocks like Steve.......i do not even have spare strings either, thanks for the reminder TH , its one of those items i keep meaning to get....but never seem to get around to . RE: Strings - NorthernRaider - 24 May 2016 I do have two spare strings for each of my recurves, but none for any of the compounds RE: Strings - Tartar Horde - 25 May 2016 Here's a video of how to make a Flemish twist string suitable for recurves and longbows/flatbows. Although you will see a lot of people using a string jig it is not neccessary. This is the same sort of string used back in the day, and uses nothing but friction to hold it together, plus a liberal coating of beeswax. The same twisting technique can be used to make cordage from nettles etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDebsJ5ufTg Hope you find it usefull. |
