How long would you last? - NorthernRaider - 28 May 2016

A little scenario to consider your own response.
How long would you last?
Lets say an Europe wide health problem comes to pass, perhaps a viral out bacterial disease outbreak that spreads very fast and has a very high mortality rate, Its not airborne just spread by close proximity and via touch etc.
So the government orders everyone to stay at home until the outbreak burns itself out, they estimate two weeks of everyone facing self imposed confinement.
By the end of week one the power supplies fail, not long after the gas and water systems fail, you are in the dark without utilities no gas, electricity, running water or sewage systems.
That means no refrigeration, telephones, waste disposal, elevators, street lights, no central heating etc as well
But after two weeks its still not safe to come out, new cases of infection keep popping up in various places killing anyone infected.
So it turns out that the longer you can remain in isolation ( IE INDOORS in the towns and cities or not venturing outside your gardens if you like in rural areas not close to neighbours)
HOW LONG CAN YOU SUSTAIN YOUR FAMILY remaining in location entirely self sufficient because venturing out risks death from infection or being shop by troops enforcing the lock down?

We will be fine for a couple of months. The problem would be keeping the kids quiet.

Months at reasonably comfortable level, years if necessary but we'd look pretty filthy at the end and would probably kill for a curry.

Yes, I reckon we would be o.k. for a while. We live in the sticks anyway so there is the opportunity to forage if possible. Our sanitation needs are met by a sewage tank anyway, and we are surrounded by water, so o.k. there. I think boredom would be the worst thing.

3 to 6 months at least.

It kind of depends on how quickly we realise that it'd be a long term lock down, as we have various strategies on consumption, particularly of foodstuffs.

Planning standard to shelter underground to enable fallout to blow over is 2 weeks if you do not have radiological monitoring equipment.

RE: How long would you last? - Midnitemo - 30 May 2016

Could currently hold out for somewhere between 8 and 12 weeks on current food/water and meds stocks , only reason to leave would be waste disposal if burning was not an option, biggest concern would be home invasion by people out of supplies

RE: How long would you last? - T-oddity - 30 May 2016

Total lock down, realistically probably six to eight weeks.

Six months we would be okay....if left alone you could double it and more.....but i doubt sheeple will let us be.
