"Arctic warfare training, Harry? Were you in the Marines? " Not just marines train in the Arctic Mary Wink

RE: Volcano Grill - Grumpy Grandpa - 1 January 2017

Was it just an OB course then Harry?

RE: Volcano Grill - Mortblanc - 1 January 2017

How did yet another thread, this one about a stove, turn out to be all about HP?

Every soldier in any nation that has 4 seasons and has frozen a canteen on their belt gets "arctic training".

It is part of the standard training regimen.

MB, I replied to a thread, was asked a question and replied.

A frozen canteen is not 'Arctic Warfare Training' LOL, certainly not on my extended courses in Norway Smile

RE: Volcano Grill - Mortblanc - 17 March 2017

The "frozen canteen" was not a literal reference but I sometimes forget those kind of things fly over your heads.

Our Arctic training is usually done in the northern tier of states along the Canadian border, usually Minnesota, Michigan or New York. Sometimes as joint exercises with the Canadians. Some of it takes place in the Rocky Mountains and we also have the entire area of Alaska. We do not have to leave our borders to find areas suitable for such training during the colder months of the year.

It is standard training for all specialized units and all units stationed in those areas. It is also standard training for units expected to deploy into colder zones.

There is also a standard question asked when two persons wearing our Ranger Tab meet, "Summer or winter?" There is a special respect awarded to men that endured and graduated Ranger School during the winter months. that would include about half the Regular Army officer corps, since they are expected to graduate Ranger School as part of their career advancement.
