Burst water main. - Pete Grey - 5 November 2024 It doesn’t have to be a major event for a water shortage, it only needs an idiot on a digger to burst a 2ft water main affecting thousands of homes for 48 hours, (Wednesbury, West Midlands, 2-11-24). Supermarket out of bottled water in 3 hours. What can you learn from this ?. RE: Burst water main. - bigpaul - 6 November 2024 I always have bottled water on standby for just this sort of thing. RE: Burst water main. - Sunna - 6 November 2024 During the 08 floods our water was cut off for several weeks ,among the last to be reconnected because of our rural location all shop and supermarkets sold out in hours but travel further afield and you were OK. Fair play to the authority's they brought in massive amounts of bottled water but washing cloths ,ourselves, cooking ,washing up were a huge problem also flushing the loo. No water filter could supply a family with what it really needs apart from drinking. I got by by showing in my gym ,washing cloths at families home and using tons of bottled water. If it was a real shtf event lots of problems RE: Burst water main. - earthman - 6 November 2024 It's good to have a storage of water, I certainly have but we are all limited when it comes to space, everyone will run dry at some point. Being able to collect water and filter it is the goal, I have a water butt and a couple of different filter systems, hope that it never comes to it but that's my plan. RE: Burst water main. - bigpaul - 6 November 2024 we have plenty of water butts and filters, no way we will run out of water in the mild-and very rainy- South west. RE: Burst water main. - Sunna - 6 November 2024 So that's purified water for you and yours for washing bodys , cloths ,drinking ,how many litres a day for a family of 4, for ever and ever . RE: Burst water main. - Sunna - 6 November 2024 Also washing up and cooking. RE: Burst water main. - Pete Grey - 6 November 2024 In a SHTF situation water would need to be collected and transported, water is heavy how would YOU shift it ?. RE: Burst water main. - bigpaul - 7 November 2024 The average UK roof collects 300 water butts of water per year. 300 x 40 gallons per butt is 12,000 gallons per year, all you need are enough water butts, I have never run out of water since we moved here and my water butts will refill overnight after a decent rain. RE: Burst water main. - Pete Grey - 7 November 2024 You can guarantee when TSHTF it will be after a drought and the waterbutts will be empty. Most of our potable water is in jerrycans, when that’s used up and the waterbutts, we can refill jerrycans from a local pond, or spring, and transport them with our garden cart if no motor vehicle or no fuel available. As I asked how would YOU collect and transport water if necessary ?, have you a plan ?. |
