Markets have become almost entirely reactive to news and sentiment now. The retail market has expanded greatly over the last few years now allowing the public to buy fractions of shares using phone apps. For the first time in history the masses have a means to move markets using apps like reddit and control the front and back end in a similar way to hedge funds, making a lot of (mostly very young) people, lots of money.
