Ayup BP Smile
"the south west is only 90 minutes from London"...depends on which part of the south west you mean, Plymouth is 240 miles from London

Plymouth is not the western border of the south west my friend, for our purposes ( or porpoises) it is when the urban conurbations of the south EAST give way to the even more open and rolling lands to the west of say for arguments sake a line from Oxford down to Southhampton, or more simply once you get passed Reading / Newbury etc the land very quickly becomes open rolling plains and lush green bocage. All of the huge Salisbury plain , New Forest etc is just oddles of room for westward moving refugees to expand across.
If they were moving NORTH from London they have the open areas of east Anglia to expand to and though there is more room navigation is more difficult cos of the millions of water ways.

I DID say "which part of the south west you meant!! at which part does the south east become the south west to a northerner? Salisbury plain? Stonehenge? traditionally the westcountry is Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset.....NOT Wiltshire, not Hampshire.

that's ok Morty old boy, I've been ignoring you for ages!!
It keeps my BS detector from working overtime.
Devs just given my an idea, this thread is about the SW started by LS for some unexplained reason, so why could other folks not start a series of threads to discuss the pros and cons of the other regions, economic, population, agriculture, mass migration, climate etc.

A secondary view or perspective of other peoples regions from an outsiders point of view could help people look at things in perhaps a different light and allow them to adapt, or just sulk like Dev Smile
seems fair enough to me, cant understand why the thread was South West only anyway, its not the only place that gets caravanners and campers.
