RE: What have done towards your prep? - Tartar Horde - 1 May 2014 I was going to start a new batch of Upper Palaeolithic bone points today but the pet shop has run out of bones ![]() ![]() RE: What have done towards your prep? - bigpaul - 1 May 2014 don't think I can add much to that!! ![]() RE: What have done towards your prep? - Barneyboy - 1 May 2014 and a bloody nice bow it is too ta muchly ![]() RE: What have done towards your prep? - Scythe13 - 4 May 2014 This weekend has been a camping trip (no write up as it was only camping and not gear testing or anything like that, so not really prep related) and during this trip, aside from stalking animals and having a great time with my wife, I have had a wonderful chat with her about building a BOB, but also about working out a BOB that is right for her. The trip showed her how much stuff she had already packed, just for a weekend, and how impractical it would be to carry such a large load for a long distance. It was a real eye opener for her. Even though I was carrying the bag (about 80lbs I'd guess at. Easily over 70, max guess would be 90) and she thought she'd packed small amounts of stuff, the total weight was considerable. Bare in mind that I only took a 1 season sleeping bag, a bag liner, and the camping cook system (ultra light, as you'd expect from me) the whole thing blew her mind. She put forward a great idea, a walk from Haytor to Hound Tor camp at Hound then walk back the next day! AMAZING IDEA!!! Any takers? Oh, and it's full BOB's too. RE: What have done towards your prep? - Straight Shooter - 4 May 2014 Build a new shed 4mts x 2.5 mts x 2.4 mts high all closed in fibre glassed roof yesterday. Got the cylinder in position will get it all up and running by next weekend with a bit of luck . On with fence tomorrow Monday .....charging on. RE: What have done towards your prep? - Straight Shooter - 12 May 2014 Well rayburn is running......loads of hot water ! And central heating works without the pump! .....wifey wants to bake bread NOW! , think I will be putting wieght on ........she,s chomping at the bit..... happy days. RE: What have done towards your prep? - Scythe13 - 12 May 2014 That's awesome SS. Really pleased it's running well. Today I paced out 400meters in a line and an additional 100 meters. Time for sprint training! RE: What have done towards your prep? - Tartar Horde - 15 May 2014 Just received this little beauty http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Powerful-Hunting-Catapult-Slingshot-Tough-Polymer-Theraband-Bands-CHOICE-poach-G-/181222051328?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&var=&hash=item2a31ad0e00 RE: What have done towards your prep? - Scythe13 - 15 May 2014 Awesome news today! The wife is 100% on board with the food storage! Celebrated with a shop of around £20. Not a lot, but it's a nice bit added on. Decked out a lot of the loft space, and now have around 140ish tins up there. Stood up there with the wife, so I know it can take both my weight and hers, so it's a lot more shopping to go up there. Also, added 1700 pellets to the store today. Nice to have, but it cost a damn site more than the tins shopping. Oh, forgot to say it earlier....got my photos of crow stalking!!! Will post them up when I get to work tomorrow. RE: What have done towards your prep? - Devonian - 15 May 2014 Are you sure that storing tinned foods in the loft is the best option? Surely it would be like storing them in a cooker at low heat, loft spaces can easily reach 50 degree C in the summer months. This is one of the reasons for positioning Air Source Heat pumps in loft voids. http://www.nea.org.uk/see-us-in-action/calor-free-programme/calor-on-gas/domestic-hot-water/ashp-for-dhw Such heat could (I guess??) easily spoil your food over a matter of months. |
