RE: Big Brother - Steve - 1 May 2013

My understanding is that the fridge, or perhaps other appliances, will have a chip that monitors the mains frequency - this is a good indicator of the state of the grid, the frequency drops as the generators near maximum output. The chip will switch off the fridge for a while, in order to prevent a massive surge of all the fridges coming back on together there will probably be a random element to the "off" duration.

This isn't a "Big Brother" situation at all, simply a desperate measure by companies and government who have utterly failed to adequately invest in new power stations despite many years warning about the closure of fossil fueled stations and end-of-life of the nuclear stations.

I't not just the power stations it's the national grid too

I think a couple of years ago it was estimated the the grid needs somewhere in the region of £35bn invested in it before 2020 .... not sure how much this has increased

Steve,

And when they make us pay for it with this technology then that makes it Big Brother Nanny State.

We're going to pay one way or another anyway, is it better to pay a couple of quid extra for a fridge or pay it via taxes ? I suppose the socialist view is that the tax way is better, as many on the lowest income pay no tax.

One thing seems clear to me, the chronic underinvestment by privatized industries means the services are going to fail unless they get a government bailout. As the government doesn't have any money I think it's safe to say that candles are a good investment.

RE: Big Brother - Metroyeti - 16 May 2013

Guys, the government of a certain country wont let anyone patent their ideas/inventions for free/cheap energy ( even engines that run on water ).....people are dying in "automobile accidents" in certain countries now ! we don't need fossil fuels , wind /sea power is a joke .....they are trying to tell the sheeple that the "wheel is still square " and don't question this ........or else ...... I like telling people at the door who say change with us ...blah blah ..that energy is freely available ....and your company still con us out of hundreds each year .....they go away...confused at the small tattooed man......
